Australian Centre for Olympic Studies

The Australian Centre for Olympic Studies (ACOS) was launched on the 6 October 2005 by Helen Brownlee, member of the Australian Olympic Committee.  The aim of ACOS is to provide a national focus for Olympic studies in Australia.

The centre's main current activities are research and publishing, teaching and documentation.

Latest publications

Australia is the first country to develop an international caravan – a product of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games – to cater for the requirements of large-scale sporting and cultural events. The story of the caravan needs to be told because it has enhanced the country’s reputation abroad.  It has also contributed to the knowledge economy. Since the caravan has largely operated offshore, the achievements of many Australians have not been properly recognised.

The centre has a range of publications for sale.
